INSPIRATION
WHAT DOES "COALFEATHER" MEAN?
Much of my inspiration comes from nature. "Coalfeather" is representative of several elements.
First, the "coal" portion is in reference to my medium of choice, charcoal. The "feather" portion could naturally be correlated to the various avian subjects depicted in my pieces. Then there's the tagline
"out of ashes comes new life. finding the extra in the ordinary." Through the medium of burnt wood, new life comes forth from the paper. Not only in the subject created, but in the emotions and feelings evoked from the those that observe and enjoy. There are many references that could be taken from this, like the phoenix resurrection, ashes to ashes, the circle of life, etc. It's all open to individual interpretation.
My goal when it comes to my art pieces, is that they will spark some type of emotion from you and leave you appreciating the beauty in something you may have never noticed before.
